Colorectal Screening - Important Information
Medicare Covers Colorectal Cancer Screening
Here is some information on some of the procedures that are covered:
- Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT):
- Once every 12 months if age 50 or older
- Flexible Sigmoidoscopy:
- Once every 48 months if age 50 or older, or 10 years after a previous screening colonoscopy for those not at high risk
- Colonoscopy:
- Once every 10 years (high risk patients - every 2 years) or 4 years after a previous flexible colonoscopy. No minimum age requirement
- Barium Enema:
- Once Every 4 years if age 50 or older (high risk patients - every 2 years) when used instead of a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy
